Chrome Plated Nerf Bars:
When nerf bars are chrome plated, it is just the surface of the product that is chrome. The plating is usually over regular steel. Over the years this process has been used very successfully for bumpers and wheels, but the downside using this process for a nerf bar is that if the chrome surface is scratched and you expose the under surface (steel), your nerf bars will rust. Scratches can occur in many ways, sometimes by scraping the bar up against an object, or simply by having a rock in the sole of your shoe and stepping on the nerf bar.
