FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT WOOD DASH TRIM PRODUCTS.

How are the trim pieces installed? Do I have to remove my existing dashboard? Do I have to buy special glue?

Each wood trim piece is precision cut from a pattern taken of the dash area. Each piece has 3M foam adhesive tape completely covering the back side. After the dash area is prepped properly, the piece is pressed on top. There is no need to remove the existing dash.

How hard is it to install the trim, can I do it myself or do I need a professional?

Although we recommend that you have the wood trim installed by a professional, you can install it yourself if you take your time and follow the instructions completely. You basically clean the dash areas first, apply the supplied primer and press the pieces in place.

How thick is the trim. Will it look obvious that something was put on top of the existing dash and "cheapen" the look of the interior?

The pieces are less than 1/16" and are flexible to take on a flat or slightly contoured surface, such as bottom and upper center console areas. Since they are made from a pattern taken from the actual dash, the fit is very precise. Once installed, the wood trim completes the interior with a beautiful luxurious appearance. That is why you see this trim coming from the factory and also supplied by the dealerships, giving the term "factory look". We supply OEM trim and OEM approved aftermarket trim.

What is the difference between traditional "flat" kits and molded or "formed" kits?

Traditional flat kits define 90% of the wood trim that you see in vehicles today. The pieces are made flat with smooth beveled edges and cover the flat portions of the dash areas you see described in each kit diagram. These kits generally come in complete "full" kit versions consisting of many pieces, or reduced kit versions with less pieces. These kits come in a variety of color choices in real or simulated wood and also real or simulated carbon fiber or simulated metal finishes. Pricing for these kits are very affordable.

"Formed" or "Molded" dash kits describe trim that is actually formed to fit sharper contoured areas, such as speedo trim, radio bezels and door switch trim. It is best visualized as "3-D" in that it is shaped to fit sharp angles and take corners. It is wider and encases more of the dash area. This trim is made from synthetic material and has a specially treated finish that is just as durable and luxurious and carries a limited lifetime warranty. These kits are designed to enhance large dashboards for trucks and SUV's. We also have available flat dash upgrade sets to complement the formed dash kits to cover the flat areas, making a larger, more complete kit.

I already have some wood or plastic type woodgrain in my vehicle. Can I replace it with a new dash kit?

We have some kits available as a supplement to factory installed wood trim. These additional pieces are made with what we label "factory match". In most cases they are manufactured in real wood or simulated finishes to match the factory supplied trim. Given the nature and characteristics of real wood, the matching color may be vary slightly in appearance to the factory trim for real wood finishes. This is normal and does not look "out of place " with the existing trim. These pieces add to but do not replace existing wood trim.

It is important to note that these kits are manufactured to complement factory installed trim, not aftermarket trim installed for or by the dealer. If you are not sure if your trim is factory installed, check with your dealership. If you have factory installed trim that we do not have supplemental "factory match" dash kits for, it is not recommended that you try to cover it with other color dash trim unless the dash kit is specifically labeled as factory "cover up" trim. If you have aftermarket installed trim, it is not recommended to purchase new trim if you are trying to cover up or match the color of your existing trim. Since each manufacturer offers it own color options, they also have different grades and types of finishes that will not match each other.

I see some pieces that I like on one kit and some pieces on another kit. Can I make my own kit and buy separate pieces?

Generally, each dash kit is custom cut as an entire kit and pieces are not sold separately. Some dash kits come as a base kit and have ADD-ON kits available to purchase along with the base kit to make a larger kit. Since we carry kits from several manufacturers, the color options and top finishes are different and will not match each other. It is not recommended to "mix and match" separate dash kits, unless we have a kit specified as an "ADD-ON".

I notice that the formed/molded dash kits have less pieces than the traditional flat trim kits. Can I combine the two kits to get more trim coverage in my vehicle?

Most of our "formed" dash kits come in a COMBO kit, offering both molded and flat pieces, and some Molded kits come with flat ADD-ON pieces available to match, completing the look of a full kit. These options give you the benefit of having the formed pieces in the areas where they look best and covering the rest of the flat dash areas with matching trim.

I notice extra pieces in a diagram for trim that is not in my vehicle. Do I need them?

Many times we offer "universal" dash kits that include pieces for vehicles spanning several model years or vehicles that are upgraded in some way, such as optional overhead console or center console for bucket seat versions. You simply would use only the pieces that apply to your vehicle. Many times there are vehicle models with options for fog lamps or airbag indicators, so extra pieces are included to accommodate those options.
