PLEASE READ INSTRUCTIONS THOROUGHLY BEFORE PRECEDING
We have provided complete instructions and in most
applications specific hardware,3M tape, and specialized brackets or
braces. The list of these items is listed on page two of the Instructions.
-Before starting please verify that they are included with the
shipment.
Also verify that you received the correct
Xenon part. All part numbers are embossed on the inside of the part.
The list of part(s) is noted at the bottom of the page.
Tools & general materials required:
#7447 Scotchbrite pads, TSP or TING cleaners, sandpaper, MEK, PRO-BOND,
wax & grease remover, Phillips screwdriver, drill & drill bits,
and general hand toolds as required.
THERE ARE FOUR PHASES TO MOST INSTALLATIONS:
- Removal of factory parts that might interfere
with the installation and that TEST FIT the parts.
- Preparation of the parts for paint - and painting.
- Installation of the 3M tape (if applicable).
- Installation of the parts.
PHASE 1) REMOVAL & TEST FIT
| REMOVE : |
Remove all fender trim, body side molding,
mud flaps, etc. that interfere with the installation of the Xenon
parts. |
- Test fit the parts to verify excellent
fit and outline their location w/ a grease pencil.
| NOTE : |
Occasionally,
our parts might seem to be slightly distorted upon test fit. If
so, place them in the sun bottom side down (if a warm day)
or in a warm area for an hour or more.
Our urethane formula does have a considerable "memory"
and they should return to their original as manufactured shape. |
- If the fender flares are not going
to be painted, wash them well w/ "Simple Green" and when
dry [rotect them with either 303 Protectant or The Wax Shop Bumper
PHASE 2) PREPARATION OF PART FOR PAINTING&
PAINT (if applicable)
- CLEAN the printable and tape
ledge surfaces with TSP or TING, water and #7447 Scotchbrite pads.
Our parts have a wax based mold release and when they are properly
cleaned they will be a dull gray color (not black or shiny).
- SAND the visible edges of the parts as needed (usually
w/ 180 or 220)
- SAND all paintable surfaces with 320 wet-rinse
well-dry parts.
- WIPE down with a wax & grease remover such
as RM900 or 3M8983
- PRIME parts with a CATALIZED primer such as DuPont's
"Europrimer"
- SAND dry primered surfaces wioth 600 and fill any
slightimperfections with "Evercoat" glazing putty and sand
smooth.
- Wipe down with RM900 or 3M8983.
- PAINT the parts following the paing manufacture's
process and recommendations.
- DO NOT oven bake our parts over 130 and they should
be well supported during this cycle.
| NOTE : |
For fender flares - if you desire a non-gloss
black paint finish you might consider DuPont "black vinyl"
305 Medium. |
PHASE 3) INSTALLATION OF THE 3M TAPE
- SAND the tape ledge w/ 80
frit sandpaper or small sanding wheel grinder.
- WIPE same area w/ MEK twice.
- WIPE same area w/ "Pro-Bond".
- APPLY the tape, pulling it slightly, V-cust as
necessary going around curved areas and PRESS the tapew on with the
hanl\dle part of scissors. Do not install tape where
a fender flare goes into a body character are such as on the CK Chevy
or Dodge Ram.
- ALLOW the part to set with the tape applied, if
possible for an hour or more in a warm area - this will help the curing
process.
PHASE 4) INSTALLATION OF THE PART
(perform in a warm area above 70 degrees)
- CLEAN the surface where the
tape will contact w/ wax & grease remover, then wipe same area
w/ MEK followed by "Pro-Bond".
- PULL up a corner of the end of the red tape backing
so that it is cisible outside the edge of the part. (Assuming the
tape was installed in one piece)
- PLACE the part in positioin, pull the red backing
from the tape and press the part where the tape is.
| NOTE : |
When installing our separate door panel
part of a flare fit install the quarter panel flare first, position
its corresponding door panel in place with the door closed, align,
mark its position, open the door and install the door panel where
indicated in the positioning stage. Since the rear door clearance
vary from the factory it generally is not good to position the
door panel to follow the door edge. |
- INSTALL all hardware &
screws as illustrated - DO NOT overtighten.
| NOTE : |
Some installers/restylers supplement or
use in lieu of the tape a structural adhesive such as "Duramix"
(Manufactured by Polymer Eng. Corp., 800.537.9204) |
